About this job

Burning River Farm is hiring a Vegetable Farm Crew Member in Frederic for its 2026 season. Combine hands-on crop work with a weekly farmers-market shift, with housing included in the full-time package. What you will do • Help seed, plant, weed, trellis, and harvest vegetables. • Wash and pack crops for markets and other orders. • Participate in field preparation and general farm tasks. • Set up market displays, assist customers, and handle purchases. How the work fits together Mike Noreen started Burning River in 2006 after working at another small Wisconsin farm. Early support with land and equipment helped him establish the business, which later settled in Frederic. The farm concentrates on vegetables for nearby regional markets and on improving how those vegetables are grown each season. Cover crops and rotations play an important role, and the farm avoids plastic mulch while working to reduce waste and outside inputs. Mike and the crew share responsibility for turning those practices into consistent produce for customers. Greens and salad mixes create a regular harvest rhythm alongside other crops. A week moves between caring for plants, preparing the harvest, and meeting the people who buy it. That direct connection to customers is a central part of the farm's work. What the employer is looking for • Bring strong stamina, punctuality, honesty, and clear communication. • Work independently or with a crew while maintaining accuracy and pace. • Be ready for repetitive physical tasks and early market starts. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Compensation is $2,500 monthly, a private bedroom in a shared crew house, and some food staples. The season ends October 31. Typical farm days are Tuesday–Friday 7 a.m.–4 p.m.; Saturday market travel begins at 5 a.m. Full-season staff receive five approved paid days off. Housing excludes pets and accompanying family. How to apply Contact farmer@burningriverfarm.com about the crew position and your availability. Review the full job description and discuss the remaining-season commitment, start date, housing agreement, and applicable benefits before accepting. The farm can also be reached at 715-653-2245.
