About this job

Amber Waves is hiring a Wash Pack Manager in Amagansett for the late-summer and fall harvest. Coordinate the team that turns freshly harvested crops into clean, organized orders for the farm's market, kitchen, CSA, and other customers. The position combines practical produce handling with daily crew leadership. What you will do • Organize wash-pack priorities with harvest and market managers; direct a team of up to five. • Prepare produce and grain orders, track inventory, inspect deliveries, and rotate cooler stock. • Maintain food-safety procedures and clean work areas, containers, and equipment. How the work fits together Amanda Merrow and Katie Baldwin started Amber Waves after meeting through a farming apprenticeship. Their first seven-acre lease grew into an independently run teaching farm with fields in Amagansett and East Hampton. Community support helped protect the land and reconnect it with the historic farmers market, which reopened as the Amber Waves Market in 2017. Today the farm brings together vegetable growing, a kitchen, CSA memberships, and education for children and adults. Its purpose includes developing future growers and helping people understand where their food comes from. The wash-pack operation sits between the fields and these many outlets, making it an important part of the farm's work to feed and engage its community. What the employer is looking for • Bring strong organization, communication, and delegation skills; produce and management experience are preferred. • Use written and spoken English; Spanish is encouraged. • Be prepared for extended standing, bending, and handling 50-pound loads, with or without assistance. Schedule, conditions, and compensation This full-time role runs from late August through Thanksgiving at $24–$28 hourly. Off-site farm housing is available. Staff receive a 25% market discount and access to classes and events. Applicants must have U.S. work authorization; sponsorship is unavailable. How to apply Email Jobs@AmberWavesFarm.org with Wash Pack Manager in the subject, a resume, three references, and either a cover letter or a video introduction of up to three minutes.
