Missouri State University's Darr College of Agriculture is hiring a nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Animal Science in Springfield. The role combines undergraduate instruction, an applied research program, student mentorship, and service to Missouri's animal-agriculture community, with an anticipated start date of January 4, 2027. Responsibilities • Teach undergraduate animal-science courses based on departmental needs and the successful candidate's expertise • Create clear, engaging laboratory and classroom experiences that connect science with livestock-production decisions • Build an externally visible research program and pursue grants, industry collaboration, and peer-reviewed publication • Advise and mentor undergraduate students in academics, research, internships, and career planning • Contribute to curriculum development, assessment, recruiting, and retention • Participate in departmental, college, university, and professional service • Develop productive relationships with beef producers and other animal-industry partners • Support the college's multidisciplinary teaching, research, and outreach mission Qualifications A completed Ph.D. in animal science or a closely related discipline is required by the appointment date. Candidates must bring active beef-industry experience, including practical cow-calf experience outside an exclusively academic setting, and should be able to demonstrate effective teaching. The college is looking for a collaborative faculty member who can translate research into useful livestock-management knowledge and work well with students, producers, and colleagues. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and is not stated as a dollar range. The appointment is full time and benefits eligible.
