Crew Leader / Manager

Old Road Farm is hiring a Crew Leader / Manager in Granville. Work alongside the owners and lead a two- to four-person crew producing certified organic vegetables for local markets. What you will do • Lead and participate in planting, cultivation, harvest, washing, and packing. • Agree on daily priorities with the owners and keep work progressing. • Train newer employees, maintain quality, and model effective work habits. • Support a respectful, inclusive crew environment. How the work fits together Henry Webb and Gabrielle Tuite started Old Road Farm in 2015 with a market garden and garlic planting in Monkton. Their early business grew from a quarter acre and a few farmers markets. In 2020, they purchased their Granville farm with support from the Vermont Land Trust. The operation now combines five to six acres of field production with protected growing space in greenhouses and high tunnels. Salad greens and seasonal vegetables are central crops. Both owners brought years of practical experience to the business, including vegetable production, farm infrastructure, and produce buying. Their crops reach food co-ops, independent stores, restaurants, and a seasonal farm stand. Organic and Real Organic Project certification reflect their commitment to soil-based growing and ecologically sound production. What the employer is looking for • Have commercial vegetable-production experience; leadership experience is preferred. • Communicate patiently and adapt to the farm's methods. • Lift 50 pounds and work on your feet or knees in varying weather. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Pay starts at $20 hourly. The normal schedule is Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m., with a paid half-hour lunch. Benefits include accrued seasonal PTO, produce, and a $200 gear stipend after one month. The season runs through October, with possible additional work.
