About this job

Kiss the Cow Farm is seeking a Dairy and Diversified Farm Intern in Barnard. Learn the practical work of a small grass-based dairy through a paid-stipend placement with room and board. What you will do โ€ข Help milk and feed cows, care for calves, and move animals between pastures. โ€ข Assist with poultry care, egg collection, and packing. โ€ข Participate in farm production, creamery work, and direct food sales. โ€ข Take on independent chores after training and contribute to shared farm projects. How the work fits together Randy and Lisa Robar own and operate Kiss the Cow Farm. A small herd of Jersey and Normande cows supplies milk and ice cream, while layer hens and flowers add diversity to the business. The Robars sell through their farm store, seasonal CSA programs, farmers markets, and local food co-ops. Their investment in the farm has included soil improvements, grazing infrastructure, greenhouses, and a heated milk house. Both owners work on the farm full-time and welcome learners into its daily routines. The dairy shares a larger historic farm property with other agricultural enterprises, creating opportunities to meet neighboring growers. Training is connected to real chores and food production, with the aim of helping interns build confidence in running a small farming enterprise. What the employer is looking for โ€ข Have some farming or animal-care experience and a strong interest in learning. โ€ข Work conscientiously, accept feedback, and communicate well. โ€ข Be prepared for physical work, outdoor conditions, and responsibility around food and animals. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Internships generally involve several months, usually within Mayโ€“November; limited winter placements may be possible. Compensation includes a stipend plus room and board, not an advertised hourly wage. Discuss the stipend amount, schedule, and available dates with the owners. How to apply Use the Let's Work Together form on the farm's Work With Us page. Specify the paid internship, describe your experience and learning goals, and give your available dates. The owners will discuss whether the placement is a suitable match.
