Research Farm Manager

Mississippi State University is hiring a Farm Manager to oversee approximately 4,000 acres of agronomic cropland and hardwood forest at the Delta Research and Extension Center in Stoneville. The land supports research, teaching, and outreach, with soybean, corn, cotton, and wheat as the principal crops. What you will do • Plan and coordinate farm operations around researchers' field requirements • Build daily work schedules and supervise, train, evaluate, and approve time for farm employees and students • Recommend land assignments for DREC, USDA-ARS, and main-campus researchers • Oversee planting, crop management, harvest, commodity sales, and research logistics • Recommend equipment, materials, supplies, and facility improvements • Maintain computerized farm records and prepare operational reports • Direct maintenance, safety, and security for buildings, machinery, and equipment • Improve farm techniques and use facilities and resources economically • Work with GPS guidance systems and modern crop equipment Qualifications A bachelor's degree in a related field and five years of farm-practice experience are required. Strong candidates can operate and maintain tractors, planters, combines, cotton pickers, and common implements; understand weed, insect, and disease management; and know irrigation practices for agronomic crops. This is a full-time, 12-month supervisory appointment. Work is seasonal, physically demanding, and regularly involves heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, bending, walking, and lifting up to 50 pounds; occasional lifts can exceed 100 pounds.
