South Dakota State University is recruiting an Associate or Full Professor and Extension Swine Specialist to lead an applied swine-production program. This endowed, nine-month appointment is designed for an established animal scientist who can translate research into practical improvements for pork producers in South Dakota and beyond. Responsibilities • Build an Extension program around current producer needs and production challenges • Work directly with pork producers and contribute to SDSU's web-based Extension platform • Develop educational resources, producer programs, and industry partnerships • Maintain a close working relationship with the South Dakota Pork Producers Council • Establish an extramurally funded applied-research program focused on pork production • Recruit and mentor graduate students and collaborate across animal science, engineering, veterinary science, economics, and industry • Publish relevant research and teach undergraduate animal-science courses • Provide leadership for institutional and industry innovation in swine production Qualifications Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Animal Science with an emphasis in swine science and qualify for appointment at the associate-professor level. The role requires practical knowledge of modern swine management, a record of working with producers, sustained high-quality scholarship, and demonstrated success in Extension, teaching, or research leadership. Strong candidates can build multi-institution partnerships and communicate with producers, students, researchers, and industry. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, tenure-track nine-month appointment. Salary and rank depend on qualifications, with a starting salary of $94,000 at the associate-professor rank.
