Farm Worker

Blue Heron Farm is hiring a full-time Farm Worker in Grand Isle. Grow organic vegetables and help care for animals alongside a family team supplying CSA members and market customers. What you will do • Seed, transplant, weed, harvest, wash, and pack vegetables. • Help care for sheep, cows, and chickens. • Assist with the farm stand, farmers markets, and deliveries as assigned. • Use small farm machinery when needed and take ownership of specific tasks. How the work fits together Christine and Adam began Blue Heron Farm in 2004 after discovering their enthusiasm for growing food around their wedding. Supportive landowners helped them establish the operation, and in 2012 they purchased and conserved thirty acres on Quaker Road. Their work combines vegetable production with grazing animals, poultry, and community food programs. The farm offers CSA arrangements designed to include households with different budgets, including supported and sliding-scale shares. It also contributes produce to local food-access efforts. Soil biology, mineral balance, and resilience to difficult weather are important priorities as the family develops its growing practices. Both owners now work on the farm full-time, with their children, employees, volunteers, and friends contributing to a diversified enterprise rooted in the Champlain Islands community. What the employer is looking for • Be at least 18 and hold a valid driver's license for farm deliveries. • Lift 50 pounds repeatedly and work outside in changing weather. • Communicate respectfully and work independently; prior farming experience is not required. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Most days are no longer than eight hours, apart from unusual needs such as animal emergencies. The crew takes a one-hour lunch break.
