About this job

Frontieress Farm is looking for a field assistant to join its 2026 vegetable and cut-flower crew in Fairbanks. The position follows crops from greenhouse propagation and field setup through cultivation, harvest, washing, packing, and flower arranging. The farm is seeking someone who understands that small-scale production is rewarding but also repetitive, weather-exposed, time-sensitive work. What you will do • Seed, up-pot, and plant crops in the greenhouse according to the farm's production sequence. • Prepare fields by laying landscape fabric, spreading compost and amendments, installing irrigation lines, setting posts, and adding support netting. • Transplant, weed, and cultivate vegetables and flowers without damaging marketable crops. • Harvest vegetables at the correct maturity, then wash and pack them to the farm's quality standards. • Harvest flowers and help arrange stems for the farm's sales channels. • Travel reliably between the Herried Road and Cripple Creek Road field sites. How the work fits together Daily priorities follow crop condition and harvest timing. A morning may start with greenhouse watering or a flower cut, move into a field installation or long cultivation block, and end in the wash-and-pack area. The assistant should ask questions early, keep tools and harvested products organized, and communicate what was completed at one site before moving to the other. Attention to irrigation placement and post-harvest handling matters as much as speed in the field. What the employer is looking for • Farm experience is strongly preferred; sustained manual-labor experience may also demonstrate readiness. • A valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and willingness to work at both field sites are required. • Ability to remain on your feet for eight or more hours in changing weather and repeatedly bend, squat, kneel, stand, and lift up to 50 pounds. • Positive communication, punctuality, self-awareness, and a real interest in learning about small farming in Alaska. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Full-time hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; the part-time option is five days per week, 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. Pay is $16–$19 per hour based on experience plus weekly vegetables. The published season runs from mid-April through the end of September. Because the season is already underway, applicants should confirm the remaining 2026 term and whether the farm is still filling the full-time, part-time, or both schedules. This is an in-person agricultural production position with a small operation. Daily priorities can change with weather, plant or animal condition, equipment availability, customer schedules, and the season. The successful person should arrive ready to work, communicate early when a task or condition is unclear, follow the employer's safety and quality procedures, and leave tools, vehicles, production areas, and job sites secure and ready for the next shift. Applicants should expect active work that may include long periods of standing or walking, bending, lifting, repetitive hand tasks, noise, dust, mud, pollen, heat, cold, rain, or work around moving equipment. The exact physical demands differ by assignment. Candidates should discuss any accommodation needs with the employer and confirm the final schedule, overtime treatment, training period, travel expectations, and benefit eligibility before accepting an offer. Only compensation and benefits expressly published by the employer are included here; unpublished terms have not been estimated. How to apply Email a resume to frontieressfarm@gmail.com. State whether you prefer full-time or part-time work and include a short introduction covering relevant growing, greenhouse, irrigation, harvest, flower, wash-pack, or manual-labor experience and your ability to travel to both sites.
