Field Worker - Crops & Greenhouse Production

Ort Farms is hiring a Field Worker to help grow, harvest, and prepare its crops in Long Valley. Work spans the fields, greenhouses, and post-harvest areas, with assignments coordinated by the Field Supervisor. This is a hands-on production role for someone who already understands crops and enjoys a varied farm workload. What you will do • Prepare growing areas, sow and transplant crops, weed, thin, prune, fertilize, and install irrigation and crop supports. • Harvest and move crops, then inspect, wash, sort, and pack produce for sale or delivery. • Operate and maintain farm equipment; help with fences, farm buildings, hay handling, seasonal setup, and organized storage. • Tell the Field Supervisor about crop concerns, equipment problems, and needed supplies. How the work fits together The Ort family grows fruits, vegetables, flowers, hay, and grain in Morris County. Its Long Valley farm also runs a farm market, a CSA, pick-your-own activities, and seasonal events. Several generations of the family remain involved in managing and working the business. Field work supplies the produce that customers take home, while greenhouse work supports both crops and plants for sale. Harvest handling is part of the same production process, rather than a separate job. The crew also helps care for the working spaces and equipment that support the farm throughout its growing and selling seasons. What the employer is looking for • Have a sound knowledge of produce and agricultural practices, and be comfortable in a fast-moving field team. • Be able to work independently, follow spoken and written instructions, and understand basic written and spoken English. • Be available for at least 40 hours weekly during the May-November work period, including one weekend day on rotation. Schedule, conditions, and compensation This is seasonal, full-time work based at 25 Bartley Road, Long Valley. The work involves growing areas, equipment, crop handling, and farm upkeep.
