Garden Center Associate - Fall Season

Smith's Nursery and Smith's Farm Market is hiring a part-time Garden Center Associate for the fall season in Benson. Help customers shop for plants and produce while caring for displays at a family-owned growing operation. The role combines customer service, plant care, and the physical work of keeping a garden center ready for visitors. What you will do • Assist shoppers with plants and produce, operate the register, and handle transactions accurately. • Water plants, monitor their condition, restock displays, and keep sales areas clean. • Unload deliveries, tag plants, update signs, remove unsuitable produce, and help load customer vehicles. How the work fits together Myron Smith's family operates a nursery and produce farm near McGee's Crossroads in Johnston County. The nursery grows container plants, including hollies, wax myrtles, and ornamental grasses, while the farm produces berries and greenhouse vegetables. Its garden center connects that growing operation with home gardeners, offering trees, shrubs, vines, perennials, annuals, and hanging baskets. The farm market also carries local produce, meat, dairy, and bread. Seasonal berry picking, a fall pumpkin patch, hayrides, and educational visits bring families to the property. Garden center staff help make those visits welcoming while keeping the plants and food offered for sale in good condition. The workplace is part of an operating farm, not simply a standalone retail shop. What the employer is looking for • Enjoy helping customers, communicate clearly, and be comfortable working outdoors. • Be able to lift up to 40 pounds, including overhead lifting. • Be available on Saturdays and Sundays during September and October. Schedule, conditions, and compensation This is a part-time fall position. Scheduled hours depend on availability and business needs; confirm the hourly wage and assigned shifts during hiring.
