About this job
McKenzie's Farm is hiring for the Greenhouse Assistant position in Milton, NH. This hands-on role supports the operation's day-to-day production and care work. Reliable execution and early communication matter because the work directly affects plants, animals, equipment, coworkers, customers, or the surrounding property.
What you will do
• Seed, transplant, space, prune, trellis, irrigate, harvest, or pack greenhouse crops according to the production plan.
• Check environmental, irrigation, sanitation, and crop conditions and communicate deviations promptly.
• Clean and organize tools, benches, channels, harvest containers, and production areas according to food- or plant-safety rules.
• Work closely with the greenhouse growers to train, prune, and care for vegetable crops, following crop-specific directions for plant handling, ties, spacing, sanitation, water, and harvest readiness.
• Check greenhouse vegetables and work areas for wilt, breakage, overgrowth, pests, disease, irrigation trouble, fallen labels, and unsafe or unsanitary conditions and bring exceptions to the grower promptly.
• Move plants, tools, ties, containers, and harvested product carefully; keep rows and work areas accessible; and help reset the greenhouse for the next watering, pruning, training, or harvest assignment.
How the work fits together
Controlled-environment work is still driven by living crops. Employees begin with irrigation, climate, and crop-health checks, then complete scheduled propagation, cultural care, harvest, packing, and sanitation. Accurate observations and records help the small team respond before a minor equipment or crop issue becomes a production loss. At McKenzie's Farm, the employer also makes these role-specific priorities clear: Work closely with the greenhouse growers to train, prune, and care for vegetable crops, following crop-specific directions for plant handling, ties, spacing, sanitation, water, and harvest readiness. Check greenhouse vegetables and work areas for wilt, breakage, overgrowth, pests, disease, irrigation trouble, fallen labels, and unsafe or unsanitary conditions and bring exceptions to the grower promptly. Move plants, tools, ties, containers, and harvested product carefully; keep rows and work areas accessible; and help reset the greenhouse for the next watering, pruning, training, or harvest assignment.
What the employer is looking for
• At least 16 years old for the farm's general opportunities, reliable through the agreed October end date, comfortable learning from experienced growers, and able to follow detailed plant-care instructions.
• Capacity for active greenhouse work that involves standing, reaching, bending, careful repetitive hand tasks, warm conditions, moisture, soil, and movement around living crops without damaging them.
• Dependable attendance, direct communication, and willingness to follow the employer's safety, quality, and customer- or production-care procedures.
• Ability to complete the role's active, in-person work and to ask for instruction before using unfamiliar tools, equipment, products, or animal-handling methods.
Schedule, conditions, and compensation
This is an April-through-October greenhouse position, and the farm specifically notes that school-day or parent-friendly hours may be possible. The employer does not publish the normal days, daily start and end times, guaranteed weekly hours, numeric wage, overtime treatment, paid leave, insurance, or other benefits. Applicants should give complete remaining-season availability and confirm the actual shift, October end date, weekend or watering rotation, breaks, physical demands, compensation, and training arrangement before accepting an offer. The employer does not publish a numeric wage range on this page, so no compensation has been estimated. Applicants should confirm the final hours, overtime treatment, starting assignment, travel or reporting point, supplied equipment, and benefit eligibility directly with the employer before accepting an offer.
This is an in-person horticulture and outdoor position with a small operation. Daily priorities can change with weather, plant or animal condition, equipment availability, customer schedules, and the season. The successful person should arrive ready to work, communicate early when a task or condition is unclear, follow the employer's safety and quality procedures, and leave tools, vehicles, production areas, and job sites secure and ready for the next shift.
Applicants should expect active work that may include long periods of standing or walking, bending, lifting, repetitive hand tasks, noise, dust, mud, pollen, heat, cold, rain, or work around moving equipment. The exact physical demands differ by assignment. Candidates should discuss any accommodation needs with the employer and confirm the final schedule, overtime treatment, training period, travel expectations, and benefit eligibility before accepting an offer. Only compensation and benefits expressly published by the employer are included here; unpublished terms have not been estimated.
