About this job

Ted Lare Design Build & Garden Center is hiring for the Greenhouse Associate position in Cumming, IA. This hands-on role supports the operation's day-to-day production and care work. Reliable execution and early communication matter because the work directly affects plants, animals, equipment, coworkers, customers, or the surrounding property. What you will do • Seed, transplant, space, prune, trellis, irrigate, harvest, or pack greenhouse crops according to the production plan. • Check environmental, irrigation, sanitation, and crop conditions and communicate deviations promptly. • Clean and organize tools, benches, channels, harvest containers, and production areas according to food- or plant-safety rules. • Water, fertilize, inspect, clean, groom, and otherwise care for greenhouse plants and flowers according to their needs and department protocols. • Organize and merchandise plants to keep the greenhouse inviting, healthy, accurately arranged, and ready for customer selection. • Answer phones, help customers choose suitable plants, and collaborate on receiving, stocking, sanitation, and other greenhouse priorities. How the work fits together Controlled-environment work is still driven by living crops. Employees begin with irrigation, climate, and crop-health checks, then complete scheduled propagation, cultural care, harvest, packing, and sanitation. Accurate observations and records help the small team respond before a minor equipment or crop issue becomes a production loss. At Ted Lare Design Build & Garden Center, the employer also makes these role-specific priorities clear: Water, fertilize, inspect, clean, groom, and otherwise care for greenhouse plants and flowers according to their needs and department protocols. Organize and merchandise plants to keep the greenhouse inviting, healthy, accurately arranged, and ready for customer selection. Answer phones, help customers choose suitable plants, and collaborate on receiving, stocking, sanitation, and other greenhouse priorities. What the employer is looking for • Basic plant and flower knowledge, attention to detail, enjoyment of organization, and a customer-service-oriented approach. • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced greenhouse and work the required weekend hours within the agreed full- or part-time arrangement. • Dependable attendance, direct communication, and willingness to follow the employer's safety, quality, and customer- or production-care procedures. • Ability to complete the role's active, in-person work and to ask for instruction before using unfamiliar tools, equipment, products, or animal-handling methods. Schedule, conditions, and compensation The employer offers full- and part-time hours, describes a five-day and standard 40-hour week for full-time staff, requires weekend availability, and may schedule overtime. Starting pay is $16 per hour and up; uniforms, health coverage, paid holidays, and paid vacation are advertised subject to eligibility. The employer publishes starting compensation of $16 per hour; no upper limit is stated. Applicants should confirm the final hours, overtime treatment, starting assignment, travel or reporting point, supplied equipment, and benefit eligibility directly with the employer before accepting an offer. This is an in-person horticulture and outdoor position with a small operation. Daily priorities can change with weather, plant or animal condition, equipment availability, customer schedules, and the season. The successful person should arrive ready to work, communicate early when a task or condition is unclear, follow the employer's safety and quality procedures, and leave tools, vehicles, production areas, and job sites secure and ready for the next shift. Applicants should expect active work that may include long periods of standing or walking, bending, lifting, repetitive hand tasks, noise, dust, mud, pollen, heat, cold, rain, or work around moving equipment. The exact physical demands differ by assignment. Candidates should discuss any accommodation needs with the employer and confirm the final schedule, overtime treatment, training period, travel expectations, and benefit eligibility before accepting an offer. Only compensation and benefits expressly published by the employer are included here; unpublished terms have not been estimated.
