Greenhouse Production Team Member
Bennett's Greenhouse

About this job
Bennett's Greenhouse is hiring for the Greenhouse Production Team Member position in Lafayette, IN. This hands-on role supports the operation's day-to-day production and care work. Reliable execution and early communication matter because the work directly affects plants, animals, equipment, coworkers, customers, or the surrounding property.
What you will do
• Seed, transplant, space, prune, trellis, irrigate, harvest, or pack greenhouse crops according to the production plan.
• Check environmental, irrigation, sanitation, and crop conditions and communicate deviations promptly.
• Clean and organize tools, benches, channels, harvest containers, and production areas according to food- or plant-safety rules.
• Assist with the production handling, movement, spacing, watering, grooming, and organization of greenhouse crops as assigned by the grower or department lead.
• Watch for wilt, breakage, pest pressure, disease symptoms, irrigation trouble, or labeling problems and communicate observations rather than guessing at treatment.
• Maintain clean benches, aisles, carts, containers, tools, and production work areas while protecting plants during every move.
How the work fits together
Controlled-environment work is still driven by living crops. Employees begin with irrigation, climate, and crop-health checks, then complete scheduled propagation, cultural care, harvest, packing, and sanitation. Accurate observations and records help the small team respond before a minor equipment or crop issue becomes a production loss. At Bennett's Greenhouse, the employer also makes these role-specific priorities clear: Assist with the production handling, movement, spacing, watering, grooming, and organization of greenhouse crops as assigned by the grower or department lead. Watch for wilt, breakage, pest pressure, disease symptoms, irrigation trouble, or labeling problems and communicate observations rather than guessing at treatment. Maintain clean benches, aisles, carts, containers, tools, and production work areas while protecting plants during every move.
What the employer is looking for
• Ability to perform the stooping, bending, lifting, and physical labor identified in Bennett's application.
• Tolerance for heat and cold across active greenhouse conditions and willingness to describe relevant plant-production experience during the application process.
• Dependable attendance, direct communication, and willingness to follow the employer's safety, quality, and customer- or production-care procedures.
• Ability to complete the role's active, in-person work and to ask for instruction before using unfamiliar tools, equipment, products, or animal-handling methods.
Schedule, conditions, and compensation
The employer's application asks candidates to state desired hours, start date, and availability for every day of the week, but it does not publish numeric pay, a fixed schedule, season dates, or benefits for Greenhouse Production. The employer does not publish a numeric wage range on this page, so no compensation has been estimated. Applicants should confirm the final hours, overtime treatment, starting assignment, travel or reporting point, supplied equipment, and benefit eligibility directly with the employer before accepting an offer.
This is an in-person horticulture and outdoor position with a small operation. Daily priorities can change with weather, plant or animal condition, equipment availability, customer schedules, and the season. The successful person should arrive ready to work, communicate early when a task or condition is unclear, follow the employer's safety and quality procedures, and leave tools, vehicles, production areas, and job sites secure and ready for the next shift.
Applicants should expect active work that may include long periods of standing or walking, bending, lifting, repetitive hand tasks, noise, dust, mud, pollen, heat, cold, rain, or work around moving equipment. The exact physical demands differ by assignment. Candidates should discuss any accommodation needs with the employer and confirm the final schedule, overtime treatment, training period, travel expectations, and benefit eligibility before accepting an offer. Only compensation and benefits expressly published by the employer are included here; unpublished terms have not been estimated.
