About this job

Swift Greenhouses is hiring for the Greenhouse Production Team Member position in Gilman, IA. This hands-on role supports the operation's day-to-day production and care work. Reliable execution and early communication matter because the work directly affects plants, animals, equipment, coworkers, customers, or the surrounding property. What you will do • Seed, transplant, space, prune, trellis, irrigate, harvest, or pack greenhouse crops according to the production plan. • Check environmental, irrigation, sanitation, and crop conditions and communicate deviations promptly. • Clean and organize tools, benches, channels, harvest containers, and production areas according to food- or plant-safety rules. • Water and grow crops, seed and transplant plants, trim or weed trays, patch tray gaps, and complete other assigned cultural care. • Pull customer orders accurately and handle, move, stage, count, and organize plant trays without damaging crops or losing labels. • Support greenhouse production or related office tasks as assigned and keep benches, aisles, carts, tools, and work areas clean and orderly. How the work fits together Controlled-environment work is still driven by living crops. Employees begin with irrigation, climate, and crop-health checks, then complete scheduled propagation, cultural care, harvest, packing, and sanitation. Accurate observations and records help the small team respond before a minor equipment or crop issue becomes a production loss. At Swift Greenhouses, the employer also makes these role-specific priorities clear: Water and grow crops, seed and transplant plants, trim or weed trays, patch tray gaps, and complete other assigned cultural care. Pull customer orders accurately and handle, move, stage, count, and organize plant trays without damaging crops or losing labels. Support greenhouse production or related office tasks as assigned and keep benches, aisles, carts, tools, and work areas clean and orderly. What the employer is looking for • Ability to remain on your feet for an eight-hour day and complete repeated walking, bending, tray lifting, and careful plant handling. • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred rather than required, plus tolerance for working with aromatic plants such as lavender and rosemary. • Dependable attendance, direct communication, and willingness to follow the employer's safety, quality, and customer- or production-care procedures. • Ability to complete the role's active, in-person work and to ask for instruction before using unfamiliar tools, equipment, products, or animal-handling methods. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Swift advertises a weekday shift for full-time general employment but does not publish numeric pay or exact daily hours. It lists twice-yearly bonuses, holiday and vacation pay, a 401(k) match, available insurance, and free plants subject to employer eligibility rules. The employer does not publish a numeric wage range on this page, so no compensation has been estimated. Applicants should confirm the final hours, overtime treatment, starting assignment, travel or reporting point, supplied equipment, and benefit eligibility directly with the employer before accepting an offer. This is an in-person horticulture and outdoor position with a small operation. Daily priorities can change with weather, plant or animal condition, equipment availability, customer schedules, and the season. The successful person should arrive ready to work, communicate early when a task or condition is unclear, follow the employer's safety and quality procedures, and leave tools, vehicles, production areas, and job sites secure and ready for the next shift. Applicants should expect active work that may include long periods of standing or walking, bending, lifting, repetitive hand tasks, noise, dust, mud, pollen, heat, cold, rain, or work around moving equipment. The exact physical demands differ by assignment. Candidates should discuss any accommodation needs with the employer and confirm the final schedule, overtime treatment, training period, travel expectations, and benefit eligibility before accepting an offer. Only compensation and benefits expressly published by the employer are included here; unpublished terms have not been estimated. How to apply Download Swift's General Employment Application, complete it, and bring it to the greenhouse as instructed; questions can go to info@swiftgreenhouses.com.
