Landscape Specialist — Nursery Sales

Bates Nursery & Garden Center is hiring a full-time Landscape Specialist for its nursery sales team. Help customers select plants and understand their care while supporting the living inventory at a longstanding family garden center. What you will do • Give customers practical plant advice and attentive service. • Coordinate with greenhouse, checkout, and office staff on inventory questions. • Help water, prune, and fertilize nursery stock as needed. • Unload and organize plant deliveries and assist across the nursery lot. How the work fits together Bessie Bates began the family's growing business in 1932 with a small greenhouse. Later generations developed the nursery on Whites Creek Pike, continuing its focus on plants and personal service. The garden center supplies container-grown plants for year-round planting, from groundcovers and flowering annuals to shrubs, conifers, and specimen trees. Its selection also includes edible landscape plants, ornamental grasses, Japanese maples, and containers. Soil preparation is central to the business's gardening philosophy, reflected in its own EarthMix soils and amendments. Customers include homeowners and landscape professionals, so helpful advice needs to meet a range of knowledge levels and project sizes. The specialist role connects this broad plant selection with the information a customer needs to grow successfully. What the employer is looking for • Bring horticulture, landscape, or related retail/wholesale experience; horticultural education is preferred. • Know landscape plants and their care; native-plant knowledge is a plus. • Lift 50 pounds and work outdoors on your feet for extended periods. • Communicate well and manage time effectively; Spanish is helpful but not required. Schedule, conditions, and compensation This full-time position includes weekends and busy seasonal periods. Compensation depends on experience.
