Organic Estate Gardener & Farmer

SD Properties & Development is hiring a full-time gardener and organic farmer to care for a private 20-acre residential estate in Appling, Georgia. The property currently includes established landscape areas, a pond, pool surroundings, and walking areas, with plans to develop the land further as a productive and sustainable garden. This is a high-responsibility, hands-on role for someone who can maintain what is already growing while helping turn new ideas into practical, well-kept systems. Organic garden work • Help develop and maintain herb and vegetable beds using sound organic practices • Prepare soil, plant, water, weed, mulch, prune, and harvest as the seasons require • Build composting routines and use natural approaches to fertility and pest management • Observe plant health and address irrigation, weed, insect, disease, or weather concerns early • Keep beds, paths, storage areas, and tools organized enough for efficient daily work The successful person will understand that productive gardens depend on steady follow-through. Irrigation must be checked rather than assumed to be working, weeds should be handled before they set seed, and pruning or pest decisions should reflect the needs of each plant. The role suits a gardener who can work independently, document what was done, and communicate clearly when a project requires materials, specialist help, or a change in plan. Landscape and property stewardship Responsibilities extend beyond the food garden. The gardener will maintain the broader landscape across the estate, including routine lawn care, planting, pruning, and upkeep around the pond, pool, and walking areas. Work may involve moving materials, cleaning outdoor spaces, operating landscape equipment, and preparing parts of the property for new installations. Careful work habits matter because the setting combines ornamental areas, productive growing space, water features, and private residential use. Future projects The employer is interested in greenhouse construction and maintenance, expanded paths and lighting, and the possible establishment of honeybee hives. The gardener may research options, help plan installations, and participate in construction or setup.
