Ranch Facilities Foreman

The Horse Shelter is hiring a Ranch Facilities Foreman at its rescue ranch in Cerrillos. Help support the care of abused, neglected, and abandoned horses by keeping their working environment safe and usable. The organization combines rehabilitation, adoption, and lifelong sanctuary for horses that cannot be rehomed. What you will do • Inspect and repair barns, fences, roads, water systems, vehicles, and machinery; maintain service records. • Weld and fabricate, manage supplies and vendors, and supervise ranch hands on maintenance assignments. • Support feeding, mucking, safe hauling, property improvements, and emergency response as needed. How the work fits together The ranch occupies 128 acres at 100AB Old Cash Ranch Road, near Los Cerrillos. It began in 2000 when founder Jan Bandler established a place for rescued horses on property previously used for sheep and goats. Horses now live in stalls, paddocks, and turnout areas, receiving nutrition, veterinary attention, farrier care, and appropriate exercise. Training helps prepare suitable horses for carefully screened adoptive homes. Others remain because of age, medical needs, or their history. Safe facilities support this continuing care. The ranch is separate from the organization's Santa Fe office and resale store; visits to the horse facility are by appointment. What the employer is looking for • At least three years of relevant experience; horse handling, welding, equipment operation, staff supervision, and hauling skills. • Valid driver's license, insurable driving record, and required background screening. CDL preferred. • Ability to work outdoors year-round and frequently handle 60 pounds, with reasonable accommodation. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Permanent, full-time, salaried non-exempt work: generally 40 hours weekly, with variable and emergency shifts and paid overtime. Salary is $52,000, depending on qualifications and experience. Benefits include paid leave, medical/dental/vision options, and life/accident insurance.
