Seasonal Greenhouse Associate
Breckendale Flower Farm

About this job
Breckendale Flower Farm is hiring for the Seasonal Greenhouse Associate position in Breckenridge, MN. This hands-on role supports the operation's day-to-day production and care work. Reliable execution and early communication matter because the work directly affects plants, animals, equipment, coworkers, customers, or the surrounding property.
What you will do
• Seed, transplant, space, prune, trellis, irrigate, harvest, or pack greenhouse crops according to the production plan.
• Check environmental, irrigation, sanitation, and crop conditions and communicate deviations promptly.
• Clean and organize tools, benches, channels, harvest containers, and production areas according to food- or plant-safety rules.
• Fill pots and plant cuttings, liners, seeds, and hanging baskets, then water, trim, deadhead, space, and otherwise maintain plant material through the short peak-production assignment.
• Receive, unpack, price, merchandise, and load plants or fresh product using greenhouse carts and trolleys while preventing breakage, label errors, and avoidable stress to live material.
• Keep greenhouse aisles and work areas clean and safe, return tools and carts, sort plastics and cardboard correctly, and pitch in on additional growing-range or store tasks as directed.
How the work fits together
Controlled-environment work is still driven by living crops. Employees begin with irrigation, climate, and crop-health checks, then complete scheduled propagation, cultural care, harvest, packing, and sanitation. Accurate observations and records help the small team respond before a minor equipment or crop issue becomes a production loss. At Breckendale Flower Farm, the employer also makes these role-specific priorities clear: Fill pots and plant cuttings, liners, seeds, and hanging baskets, then water, trim, deadhead, space, and otherwise maintain plant material through the short peak-production assignment. Receive, unpack, price, merchandise, and load plants or fresh product using greenhouse carts and trolleys while preventing breakage, label errors, and avoidable stress to live material. Keep greenhouse aisles and work areas clean and safe, return tools and carts, sort plastics and cardboard correctly, and pitch in on additional growing-range or store tasks as directed.
What the employer is looking for
• A genuine interest in plants and gardening, effective communication, organization, ability to follow written and verbal instructions, and willingness to work independently and with a team in a fast-changing environment.
• Ability to remain on your feet for most of the day, repetitively lift 10–25 pounds, bend, reach, push and pull carts, and work safely in hot, humid greenhouse conditions and changing outdoor weather.
• Dependable attendance, direct communication, and willingness to follow the employer's safety, quality, and customer- or production-care procedures.
• Ability to complete the role's active, in-person work and to ask for instruction before using unfamiliar tools, equipment, products, or animal-handling methods.
Schedule, conditions, and compensation
This seasonal assignment lasts approximately four to six weeks and can provide full- or part-time hours. Weekend availability is preferred, and overtime may be available. Starting pay is $16 per hour, with the final rate based on skills, experience, and internal equity. The employer provides work apparel and gear plus an employee discount. A 401(k) match has a 90-day eligibility period, so applicants should not assume a short first-season assignment will qualify and should confirm the exact start date and expected weekly hours. The employer publishes starting compensation of $16 per hour; no upper limit is stated. Applicants should confirm the final hours, overtime treatment, starting assignment, travel or reporting point, supplied equipment, and benefit eligibility directly with the employer before accepting an offer.
This is an in-person horticulture and outdoor position with a small operation. Daily priorities can change with weather, plant or animal condition, equipment availability, customer schedules, and the season. The successful person should arrive ready to work, communicate early when a task or condition is unclear, follow the employer's safety and quality procedures, and leave tools, vehicles, production areas, and job sites secure and ready for the next shift.
Applicants should expect active work that may include long periods of standing or walking, bending, lifting, repetitive hand tasks, noise, dust, mud, pollen, heat, cold, rain, or work around moving equipment. The exact physical demands differ by assignment. Candidates should discuss any accommodation needs with the employer and confirm the final schedule, overtime treatment, training period, travel expectations, and benefit eligibility before accepting an offer. Only compensation and benefits expressly published by the employer are included here; unpublished terms have not been estimated.
How to apply
Use the Apply Now control on the Seasonal Greenhouse Associate page. Provide your availability for the full four-to-six-week period, including weekends, and describe any plant production, nursery, stocking, warehouse, merchandising, or physical-work experience.
