Weekend Garden Center Retail Associate

Landscape Garden Centers is hiring a part-time Retail Associate in Sioux Falls for weekend work through the holiday season. Help customers shop for plants and garden products while supporting seasonal events and an organized sales floor. What you will do • Welcome shoppers, answer questions, and help them find products. • Process purchases accurately using the register and point-of-sale system. • Prepare merchandise and displays and keep checkout and retail areas tidy. • Assist with events, online orders, calls, packaging, and customer carryouts. How the work fits together Phil Helland opened the Sioux Falls business in 1977, originally under the Lakeland Nurseries name. It became Landscape Garden Centers in 1989 and passed to the next generation of local leadership in 2002. Erik Helland continues as owner and president. The business moved to its current facility south of Sioux Falls in 2021, bringing its garden center and nursery into a new setting. Customers visit for houseplants, annual flowers, perennials, trees, shrubs, and gardening supplies, as well as workshops and seasonal activities. This role belongs to the retail team. It combines transactions and merchandise presentation with the personal attention that helps customers feel comfortable shopping in a plant-filled environment. What the employer is looking for • Be available on weekends, reliable, friendly, and clear in your communication. • Be comfortable learning a register system and helping with varied tasks. • Retail, cashiering, or event experience is useful; horticultural experience is not required. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Expect approximately 10–20 hours weekly, mainly weekends. Work continues through the holiday season, with a possible December layoff and return in March; continuing employment is not guaranteed. Product and plant knowledge can be learned on the job.
