About this job
CM Ranch is recruiting a Wrangler in Dubois for its 2026 season, which continues through mid-September. Help guests ride safely while caring for the horses and equipment behind a family-owned guest-ranch operation.
What you will do
β’ Lead trail outings and teach basic horsemanship.
β’ Feed, gather, and help care for a herd of more than one hundred horses.
β’ Maintain tack, organize the saddle barn, stack hay, and prepare pack trips.
β’ Support fellow crew members and pitch in wherever the ranch needs help.
How the work fits together
The riding program matches each guest to a suitable horse and saddle. New or returning-to-riding guests begin with arena instruction, while trail groups are organized by ability. Weather, terrain, and the least experienced rider shape the pace. The weekly program combines morning and afternoon outings with breakfast rides and longer picnic trips. Wranglers help guests understand both horsemanship and the surrounding country, keeping animal welfare and rider safety central to the experience. CM's roots go back to Charles Cornell Moore's early Wyoming camps and the family guest ranch he developed afterward. The Shoemakers later operated the property, followed by other family managers. Today, siblings Jay Kemmerer, Connie Kemmerer, and Betty Gray own the ranch. The buildings and riding traditions retain much of the character of the earlier operation, alongside later improvements for guests and staff.
What the employer is looking for
β’ Have substantial horse experience; this is not an entry-level riding position.
β’ Stay calm under pressure, communicate courteously, and take initiative.
β’ Be teachable and prepared for demanding physical work. Horse-hauling experience is useful but not required.
Schedule, conditions, and compensation
Expect early starts and long days in a close-knit, residential ranch environment. Full-season availability is preferred; specify your remaining-season dates so the ranch can assess fit. Confirm compensation, living arrangements, and the exact schedule during hiring.
How to apply
Complete the ranch's employment application, including availability and horse experience. The hiring team requests videos showing catching, haltering, grooming, saddling, bridling, and riding at walk, trot, and lope. Call 307-455-2331 with application questions.
