Extension Agent II — Agriculture

University of Delaware Cooperative Extension is hiring an Agriculture Extension Agent to serve farmers, agricultural businesses, and communities in New Castle County. The agent turns current research into useful education for animal agriculture, urban and small-scale farms, climate-smart production, hay and forage systems, grain, and fruit and vegetable growers. What you will do • Identify production issues affecting New Castle County farms and design science-based programs to address them • Lead workshops, farm visits, field demonstrations, tours, short courses, and virtual education • Help producers solve animal-science, forage, grain, fruit, and vegetable production problems • Develop newsletters, fact sheets, web resources, and continuing-education opportunities for licensed applicators • Serve as a county contact for farmers and agricultural industry partners • Conduct applied field research and contribute to Delaware Agriculture Week and regional crop-management programs • Collaborate with the Delaware Department of Agriculture, NRCS, FSA, conservation districts, FFA, 4-H, and producer groups • Supervise volunteers, interns, scholars, or independent-study students and document program outcomes Qualifications Applicants need a bachelor's degree in agriculture, animal science, or a related field plus four years of relevant experience, or a master's degree plus two years in Extension teaching, research, or related work. Strong public speaking, writing, adult-education, program management, and relationship-building skills are essential. A valid driver's license and dependable transportation are required. This is a full-time position with some evening and weekend programming. Pay is assigned to University pay grade 30E; the employer does not publish a dollar range in the announcement.
