The University of Alaska Fairbanks is hiring a term Research Assistant Professor to advance crop production and horticulture in northern climates. Based at the Institute of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Extension, the faculty member can work across research farms in Fairbanks, Delta Junction, and Palmer and with the Georgeson Botanical Garden. Responsibilities β€’ Conduct applied research on agricultural and horticultural crop production and markets β€’ Lead variety testing and develop practices for both small- and large-scale northern production β€’ Investigate cold-climate cultivation, emerging crops, pest management, controlled environments, and changing growing conditions β€’ Collaborate with producers, industry representatives, researchers, and Extension personnel to set useful research priorities β€’ Design evaluation plans and communicate results in reports, peer-reviewed journals, presentations, and plain-language guidance β€’ Contribute to Master Gardener curriculum, online courses, volunteer support, publications, and public outreach β€’ Develop interdisciplinary grant proposals and pursue funding that expands the program β€’ Mentor undergraduate and graduate students and participate in institute, university, and professional service Qualifications Applicants need a Ph.D. in agronomy, horticulture, or a related field and a record of research and collaboration. The university will also consider a relevant master's degree paired with demonstrated success securing research grants. Strong communication and the ability to translate producer needs into practical research are essential. The selected candidate must be able to obtain an Alaska driver's license and meet university driving criteria; visa sponsorship is unavailable. This is a full-time, nine-month term-funded faculty appointment, potentially extendable to 12 months with additional funds and reviewed annually for renewal. Salary is negotiable.
