Agriculture Intern - Fall 2026

Reed's Farm is hiring a paid Agriculture Intern for fall 2026. Work with the Farm and Program Teams on practical vegetable-production tasks, from starting crops to preparing the harvest for distribution. This is an opportunity to build growing skills at a local nonprofit farm that combines regenerative agriculture, food access, and community education. What you will do • Assist with seed starting, transplanting, greenhouse work, and direct seeding. • Help prepare beds, irrigate, weed, trellis, and manage pests; learn to use tools such as a Jang seeder and BCS walk-behind tractor. • Harvest, wash, weigh, and pack vegetables with the farm team. How the work fits together Reed's grows seasonal produce using organic and regenerative methods, with attention to soil health and a diverse farm environment. Its approach includes market-garden production, composting, cover crops, and reduced soil disturbance. The work supports a wider community mission that includes agricultural education, vocational opportunities, and local food distribution. Interns take part in the actual production routine rather than observing from the sidelines. The farm provides instruction and the tools needed for assigned work, while the intern brings appropriate outdoor clothing and weather gear. Activities take place in growing beds, greenhouses, and crop fields at the Spruce Avenue farm. What the employer is looking for • Meet the grant's eligibility rules: a current NJ undergraduate/graduate student; a recent NJ college graduate within one year of the internship; or a current undergraduate who is a permanent NJ resident. Confirm your category when applying. • Be able to lift 40 pounds, handle tools, and work on uneven outdoor surfaces. Farm experience is welcome but not required. • Have transportation to the farm, which is not on a public transit route. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Pay is $20/hour, plus a market discount. Work 15-20 hours weekly for at least 10 weeks between September and December 2026, up to 200 total hours. Shifts fall Monday-Friday between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.; the specific schedule is agreed during hiring. Work continues in varying weather.
