Agriculture Research Specialist — Animal Science Farm

West Virginia University is hiring an Agriculture Research Specialist for its Animal Science Farm in Morgantown. This is a varied, hands-on position caring for livestock, producing feed crops, supporting research and teaching, and operating the equipment that keeps a university farm running safely. What you will do • Feed, house, observe, move, identify, and care for sheep, goats, beef cattle, llamas, and chickens • Clean livestock areas, administer approved treatments, and report health or behavior concerns • Plant, maintain, and harvest crops used for animal feed • Set up research plots and livestock trials and collect samples, measurements, and other study data • Prepare animals, facilities, and equipment for classes and teaching demonstrations • Operate tractors, sprayers, loaders, balers, combines, trucks, and common farm implements • Complete routine repairs, preventive maintenance, grounds work, and facility upkeep • Maintain accurate animal, crop, research, equipment, and supply records Qualifications and schedule Applicants need an associate degree in agriculture or equivalent preparation; a high school diploma or GED plus two years of directly related experience may qualify. At least six months of livestock experience, basic data and computer skills, and a valid driver's license are required. The position includes work in all weather, lifting up to 50 pounds, pesticide exposure, and scheduled weekend and holiday animal care. A pesticide license may need to be obtained after hire. This is a regular full-time position working 37.5 hours per week in pay grade 13.
