General Greenhouse Laborer

Donald A. Schuster Greenhouse is hiring a General Greenhouse Laborer in Elyria. Help grow and prepare plants in a family-operated greenhouse, working from transplanting and potting through plant care and wholesale order preparation. What you will do • Transplant seedlings and pot or repot growing plants. • Move and space plants within the greenhouse and water them as directed. • Pull wholesale orders with coworkers and maintain clean, organized production areas. How the work fits together The Schuster family's growing history began on Murray Ridge Road with field vegetables in 1927. Donald later developed an interest in bedding plants and opened the greenhouse in 1964, selling to the local community as well as other greenhouses and nurseries. His sons Ed, Steve, and Chuck now carry on the business. They combine established plant lines with new selections and updated growing methods. Production work is central to that family business: young plants must move through the appropriate containers and growing spaces before they are ready for customers. This job is on the growing side of the greenhouse, with practical plant handling and coordination around wholesale orders, rather than primarily operating the retail register. What the employer is looking for • Have reliable transportation and the ability to lift 25 pounds safely. • Be able to bend, stoop, and remain standing for extended periods. • Follow instructions carefully, pay attention to detail, and work well with others. • Previous greenhouse or agricultural experience is helpful but not required. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Starting pay is $13/hour, and employees receive a 25% purchase discount. Flexible hours are available, with possible overtime when needed.
