About this job

Auburn University's College of Agriculture is seeking a Research Associate to lead day-to-day work on a multi-state crop-breeding project focused on oat-pea intercropping. The two-year, grant-funded appointment combines field and analytical research and gives the selected scientist room to develop related projects within the lab's mission. Responsibilities • Develop or refine project plans, research protocols, and complex proposal materials • Coordinate equipment, materials, labor, and field logistics for intercropping trials • Conduct non-routine crop experiments and investigations designed to improve breeding for intercropping systems • Collect field samples and measurements, then compile, process, and analyze research data • Document observations and present results to collaborators and professional audiences • Prepare peer-reviewed manuscripts and conference presentations • Schedule and supervise undergraduate research assistants • Help advise students and coordinate project funds when assigned Qualifications Applicants must hold a master's degree in agronomy, crop science, plant breeding, or a closely related field by the start date. The role requires demonstrated skill collecting, organizing, and analyzing data, plus strong written communication and project organization. Familiarity with Microsoft Office and the ability to manage detailed research records are expected. Candidates should be prepared to coordinate work across growing seasons, respond to field conditions, and communicate effectively with a multi-state research team. This is a full-time limited-term appointment with a posted salary range of $41,000–$61,500. Continuation during the stated two-year term depends on funding and satisfactory performance. Apply directly through Auburn's employment site and attach both a resume and cover letter.
