Retail Nursery Assistant Manager

Rohsler's Allendale Nursery is looking for an experienced Retail Nursery Assistant Manager. Help supervise the nursery department, maintain its plants and inventory, and support customers choosing trees and shrubs. This full-time role combines hands-on horticulture with the organization and service skills needed to help a garden-center department run well. What you will do • Assist with department supervision, inventory management, and ordering. • Care for and present nursery plants through watering, pruning, receiving, pricing, and merchandising. • Help customers choose suitable trees and shrubs and explain plant care and general gardening practices. How the work fits together The Rohsler family operates a 16-acre nursery across Allendale and Saddle River. Five generations of the family have been involved in the business, which continues to grow plants in its own greenhouses and fields. Its production includes annuals, perennials, mums, poinsettias, and hydrangeas. Customers visit for plants and practical horticultural advice, making knowledgeable service an important part of the nursery experience. The assistant manager connects day-to-day plant care with inventory and sales: healthy, well-presented stock needs accurate ordering, organized displays, and staff who can help gardeners select the right material. The position is based at the Allendale nursery rather than a traveling landscape crew. What the employer is looking for • Bring retail nursery experience, detailed knowledge of woody plants, and an organized approach to supervising work and maintaining stock. • Be comfortable working outdoors in different weather and handling loads of at least 40 pounds. • Skid-steer or front-end-loader experience and familiarity with Microsoft Office and operational software are advantages. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Full-time, in-person work with Saturday and/or Sunday availability required. The advertised range is $20-$30 per hour.
