About this job

Greenhouse Garden Center is hiring for the Nursery Fleet & Equipment Mechanic position in Carson City, NV. This hands-on role supports the operation's day-to-day production and care work. Reliable execution and early communication matter because the work directly affects plants, animals, equipment, coworkers, customers, or the surrounding property. What you will do โ€ข Inspect, service, diagnose, and repair assigned trucks, trailers, tractors, small engines, and grounds or nursery equipment within the employee's training and authorization. โ€ข Complete preventative maintenance, keep service notes and parts needs organized, and test equipment before returning it to operation. โ€ข Maintain a clean, secure shop and communicate safety defects, breakdowns, delayed parts, and work that requires an outside specialist. โ€ข Maintain and repair the garden center's delivery trucks, trailers, tractors, and small engines, prioritizing safety defects and the equipment needed for plant care, loading, delivery, and nursery operations. โ€ข Inspect equipment, diagnose the reported problem, complete approved mechanical and preventative work, test operation, and communicate parts, outside-service, downtime, and follow-up needs before returning a unit to use. โ€ข Organize the enclosed lockable shop and available company tools, secure vehicles and equipment, and help with other approved garden-center projects when both the work and any different pay rate are understood in advance. How the work fits together Equipment work begins with a clear description of the problem, a safe inspection, and a decision about whether the repair is within the employee's authorization. The mechanic completes scheduled service or diagnosis, obtains approval for parts or expanded work, tests the repair, records what was done, and returns the machine clean and ready. Unresolved safety defects keep equipment out of service. At Greenhouse Garden Center, the employer also makes these role-specific priorities clear: Maintain and repair the garden center's delivery trucks, trailers, tractors, and small engines, prioritizing safety defects and the equipment needed for plant care, loading, delivery, and nursery operations. Inspect equipment, diagnose the reported problem, complete approved mechanical and preventative work, test operation, and communicate parts, outside-service, downtime, and follow-up needs before returning a unit to use. Organize the enclosed lockable shop and available company tools, secure vehicles and equipment, and help with other approved garden-center projects when both the work and any different pay rate are understood in advance. What the employer is looking for โ€ข Practical ability to maintain trucks, small engines, and tractors and to work independently enough to diagnose common failures while recognizing repairs that need additional tools, authorization, or specialist service. โ€ข Availability for weekends and holidays as required, dependable attendance through the changing seasonal workload, and safe physical capacity for the lifting, bending, tool use, shop work, and outdoor equipment access involved. โ€ข Dependable attendance, direct communication, and willingness to follow the employer's safety, quality, and customer- or production-care procedures. โ€ข Ability to complete the role's active, in-person work and to ask for instruction before using unfamiliar tools, equipment, products, or animal-handling methods. Schedule, conditions, and compensation The employer lists this as a full-time position and requires weekend and holiday availability. Expected workload is approximately 20 to 40 hours per week in spring, summer, and fall and often four to 10 hours per week in winter. Some tools and an enclosed lockable shop are available. The page does not publish the mechanic rate, the lower rate mentioned for optional project help, guaranteed weekly hours, overtime treatment, paid leave, insurance, or other benefits. Confirm both rates, the seasonal schedule, tool policy, purchasing authority, and project expectations before accepting. The employer does not publish a numeric wage range on this page, so no compensation has been estimated. Applicants should confirm the final hours, overtime treatment, starting assignment, travel or reporting point, supplied equipment, and benefit eligibility directly with the employer before accepting an offer. This is an in-person horticulture and outdoor position with a small operation. Daily priorities can change with weather, plant or animal condition, equipment availability, customer schedules, and the season. The successful person should arrive ready to work, communicate early when a task or condition is unclear, follow the employer's safety and quality procedures, and leave tools, vehicles, production areas, and job sites secure and ready for the next shift. Applicants should expect active work that may include long periods of standing or walking, bending, lifting, repetitive hand tasks, noise, dust, mud, pollen, heat, cold, rain, or work around moving equipment. The exact physical demands differ by assignment. Candidates should discuss any accommodation needs with the employer and confirm the final schedule, overtime treatment, training period, travel expectations, and benefit eligibility before accepting an offer. Only compensation and benefits expressly published by the employer are included here; unpublished terms have not been estimated. How to apply Download the printable application from the mechanic posting and return it using the instructions on the form or directly to Greenhouse Garden Center at 2450 South Curry Street in Carson City. Identify Mechanic Position and provide complete availability and work history. Attach or bring a resume that distinguishes truck, trailer, tractor, diesel, gasoline, electrical, hydraulic, welding, fabrication, preventative-maintenance, diagnostic, and small-engine experience, along with licenses and the tools you normally supply.
