About this job

The Garden For All is hiring an experienced, hands-on Operations Manager to lead its 3.5-acre organic vegetable and flower garden in Johnstown, Ohio. This small Central Ohio nonprofit grows high-quality produce and flowers for local food-pantry partners while creating practical ways for community volunteers to work together. The 2026 growing site includes established beds and irrigation, four high tunnels, a wash-and-pack building, walk-in refrigeration, a barn, tractor, and delivery van. Garden production and leadership β€’ Work with the Chief Grower to turn the seasonal crop plan into clear daily and weekly priorities β€’ Oversee vegetable, raspberry, and cut-flower production from propagation through harvest β€’ Manage seed starting, nursery care, watering, hardening-off, and transplant readiness β€’ Coordinate high-tunnel and year-round mixed-vegetable production β€’ Direct organic fertility, pest, disease, and soil-health work using cover crops, soil testing, compost, amendments, and mulch β€’ Supervise, train, schedule, and coach a seasonal crew of approximately four growers β€’ Prepare task plans, delegate work clearly, reinforce safe practices, and follow up on quality and completion Harvest, packing, and community work The manager leads harvest timing, washing, packing, cooler organization, and delivery scheduling for food-pantry partners. Maintaining produce quality and safe post-harvest handling is essential. You will also coordinate volunteer sessions held several mornings each week, plus afternoon wash-and-pack shifts. This requires the patience to explain tasks to people with different experience levels while keeping production moving and making volunteers feel welcome. Equipment and records The role operates and helps maintain tractors, front loaders, a bush hog, plastic-mulch layers, cultivators, BCS walk-behind equipment, irrigation, deer fencing, and other farm infrastructure. The manager tracks plantings, harvests, amendments, inputs, labor, supplies, losses, and equipment work using Heirloom farm software and Google Drive. Routine property care and arranging repairs are also part of the job. Qualifications Applicants need at least five years of organic vegetable-production experience, including demonstrated supervision or farm-management responsibility. Strong candidates understand high tunnels, mixed vegetables, soil health, cover cropping, compost, organic pest management, and the equipment listed above. You should be organized, calm under pressure, comfortable leading volunteers, and able to communicate clearly. Google Drive proficiency, a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and willingness to learn Heirloom are required. The physical work includes bending, outdoor labor in changing weather, and lifting up to 100 pounds. Schedule, pay, and housing Core hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Eastern, primarily at the Johnstown garden, with occasional coordination at the New Albany site. Peak-season overtime and occasional weekends are required. Pay is $25 per hour with paid time off; the employer notes a possible conversion to salary in 2027. A furnished 20-foot camper with shower, water, heating, and air conditioning may be available on the farm from April through October. Apply directly by emailing a resume and a one- or two-paragraph statement about your interest and relevant experience to Shawn Duffy. Use β€œFarm Operations Manager” as the subject line.
