Plant Care Technician

Brownswood Nursery is hiring a Plant Care Technician for its Johns Island garden center. Care for the nursery's living inventory, build your knowledge of locally suited plants, and help customers in an active outdoor setting. What you will do • Help maintain plant health across the garden-center inventory. • Learn to recognize plant characteristics, care needs, pests, and diseases. • Handle, load, and unload plants and assist customers courteously. • Work with the team and take part in horticultural training. How the work fits together The business grew from Cecil and Katherine Williams's backyard nursery into the Johns Island operation established by their daughter Terre and her family in 1978. Third-generation brothers Ryan Watkins and Drew Stevens took full ownership in 2024 after working in several parts of the company. Approximately twenty developed acres accommodate plant growing, the garden center, and related design and installation work. Many of the plants offered to customers are grown on site, ranging from small annuals to substantial trees. The nursery serves both home gardeners and trade customers. Plant-care staff contribute to the quality of that stock and help make the growing operation's knowledge useful to the public. The position is based in the garden center, rather than on a lawn-maintenance crew. What the employer is looking for • Be organized, dependable, flexible, and receptive to constructive feedback. • Lift 50 pounds and handle large plants safely. • Plant knowledge and tractor experience are helpful; training is available. Schedule, conditions, and compensation Full- and part-time positions are available; Saturdays are required. Compensation depends on experience and schedule.
