Teaching Garden Farm Manager

Urban Roots is hiring a full-time Farm Manager to lead the day-to-day care and development of its Urban Teaching Farm in Reno, Nevada. This woman-led, garden-based education nonprofit uses food and hands-on growing experiences to help children, educators, and community members connect nutrition, learning, and the environment. The manager oversees the productive garden while helping ensure that the farm remains a safe, inviting, and effective outdoor classroom. Garden and farm leadership • Build and manage crop schedules around the needs of Urban Roots' educational programs • Develop and carry out the teaching farm's soil-management plan • Maintain food-safety practices and Good Agricultural Practices procedures • Plan and oversee the installation of new gardens and improvements to existing growing spaces • Inspect, maintain, and repair irrigation, compost systems, garden structures, and other farm infrastructure • Care for the farm's chickens and bees, including feeding, health observation, egg collection, and hive upkeep • Coordinate with the Community Programs Director on the Gardening for All program • Lead team farm days and practical trainings so staff understand safe, consistent garden procedures Education and team responsibilities The Farm Manager works closely with education coordinators to design and improve teaching spaces. The role supervises and mentors farm interns and volunteers and occasionally substitutes in garden-education programs. About 80% of the position is garden and farm management, 10% is garden education, and 10% covers organizational duties such as staff meetings, budget tracking, grant data, fundraising events, and program improvement. Experience with small-scale produce farming, garden design and construction, irrigation, supervision, education, or grant data is valuable. Schedule, pay, and benefits This is a 32- to 40-hour-per-week position with occasional evening or weekend work. Pay is $19 per hour, issued biweekly.
