Inspection Specialist II — Agriculture & Food

The Wyoming Department of Agriculture is hiring a permanent Inspection Specialist II in Pinedale. The inspector protects food safety and animal agriculture by evaluating meat and slaughter operations, dairies, egg facilities, processors, warehouses, and other regulated establishments across an assigned territory. Responsibilities • Conduct routine and risk-based inspections of meat, slaughter, dairy, egg, food-processing, storage, and retail operations • Evaluate sanitation, production practices, temperature control, labeling, records, and regulatory compliance • Document findings clearly, explain corrective actions, and complete follow-up or enforcement work • Review construction or remodeling plans and advise operators on applicable requirements • Investigate complaints, food-safety concerns, and potential public-health risks • Maintain an organized caseload, schedules, inspection reports, and supporting evidence • Provide education and technical guidance to facility owners, workers, and the public • Coordinate with other inspectors, program specialists, laboratories, and regulatory partners Qualifications and working conditions The state accepts a bachelor's degree with zero to two years of progressive inspection experience, or roughly three to five years of relevant experience in place of the degree. Preference is given to applicants with a science-related bachelor's degree plus two years of experience and credentials such as CP-FS or REHS/RS. The selected employee must obtain required certification within one year. Work may involve damp slaughter environments, animal products, odors, cold rooms, travel, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Pay is $29.76–$33.06 per hour. This is a full-time state position with benefits, and the recruitment remains open until filled.
