About this job

Fodor Tree Farm is hiring two full-time seasonal growers at its single Poland, Ohio worksite. Owners Jon and Tara Fodor describe their operation as a small Christmas-tree and cut-flower farm where they work in the fields and grow their connection with local customers. This opening covers the hands-on garden and nursery work behind flowering plants, annuals, perennials, pumpkins, shrubs, woody ornamentals, and seasonal bouquets. Plant and garden production • Prepare fields, beds, soil, and growing areas for planting • Propagate suitable plants from cuttings and monitor young material as it establishes • Pot seedlings and liners by hand or with the farm's planter • Fill and label trays and move plants between production, greenhouse, loading, and holding areas • Plant, cultivate, weed, water, and maintain flowers, shrubs, plugs, liners, and other ornamentals • Distinguish crop plants from weeds and work carefully enough to avoid damaging saleable material • Harvest crops to the requested count, quality, and bunch size while following food-safety and good-agricultural-practice instructions Flowers and order preparation The position includes harvesting flowers, bunching stems, and creating mixed bouquets to the farm's quality standards. Crew members clean and organize the work area, move finished product, and help prepare greenhouse or production areas for the next crop cycle. Depending on weather and seasonal needs, work may also include barn and field preparation, drainage, fence or building upkeep, painting, and basic tool or equipment maintenance directly related to plant production. Tools, equipment, and work style Gardeners may use tractors and implements as well as hand-operated tools after receiving appropriate direction. Supervisors provide instructions, and employees are expected to build a reliable pace while maintaining quality and safety. This is a small operation, so flexibility matters: the day's priority may shift from soil preparation and planting to flower harvest, bouquet work, greenhouse preparation, or property maintenance as crops and weather change. Qualifications and physical demands Prior experience is not required. Fodor Tree Farm is looking for people who can respectfully follow directions, meet reasonable standards for speed and quality, and take care around plants and equipment. You must be able to stand, bend, stoop, and kneel for extended periods and remain productive outdoors through wet crops, light rain, sun, and temperatures that may range from cold conditions to above 100 degrees. Any employer-paid drug testing or background check described in the job order occurs after hire and is not part of the interview. Season, hours, and pay The current job order runs through December 1, 2026 and guarantees 35 hours per week. The published work window is 7:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.; applicants should confirm the weekly day pattern with the farm. When crop conditions create additional work, the employer may offer longer days or holiday and Sabbath hours, but those extra hours are voluntary. The public job page displays $14.38 per hour and separately lists a $14.00 H-2A wage figure, so applicants should confirm the rate that applies to their circumstances before accepting an offer. Apply directly to the farm by email or by calling 330-333-1553. Reference federal job order H-300-26049-648823 and include your availability plus any gardening, flower, greenhouse, equipment, or outdoor-work experience.
