Seasonal Farm Hand

Smithereen Farm is hiring a seasonal Farm Hand for its certified organic farm and agroforestry operation in Pembroke, Maine. The farm produces vegetables in permanent beds and greenhouses along with herbs, fruit, seedlings, seaweed, wild-harvested crops, dried goods, and other value-added products. The role supports the Farm Manager across field production, harvest, processing, sales, and visitor-facing farm work. Responsibilities • Seed, propagate, plant, and cultivate crops across gardens, greenhouses, blueberry barrens, cranberry bogs, nursery areas, and orchards • Harvest vegetables, herbs, seed crops, fruit, seaweed, and other wild crops in season • Move herbs and kelp through drying, grinding, blending, and other value-added workflows • Care for hand tools and farm machinery • Track seed inventory, harvests, field activity for organic certification, timesheets, and drying-room production • Keep the wash/pack area clean and supplied; wash, pack, label, and deliver products to the farm store • Help set up, sell, and pack down at farmers markets and deliver pre-packed Farmshares • Occasionally care for cows, goats, rabbits, and meat birds • Maintain farm camping and agritourism areas for guests and visitors Qualifications • Previous farm-hand experience is required • Adaptable, quick to learn, attentive to detail, and able to solve problems independently • Communicates respectfully with customers, vendors, coworkers, neighbors, youth, elders, producers, artists, and event participants • Comfortable with remote rural living and interested in a diverse small-farm lifestyle • Current driver's license • Able to lift 50 pounds Schedule and compensation This is a temporary, full-time position at 40 hours per week, running April 13–October 17, 2026. Pay is $20 per hour. Benefits The position includes free produce and seedlings, six paid days off for sick or personal needs, and workers' compensation coverage.
