Research Technician I — Greenhouse & Field Crops

Texas A&M AgriLife Research is hiring a Research Technician in Bushland for greenhouse, high-tunnel, and field studies in entomology, horticulture, and plant virology. The technician supports vegetable-crop research from plant production and insect work through data collection and equipment setup. What you will do • Establish, maintain, measure, and summarize greenhouse and field trials • Grow vegetable crops in greenhouses, high tunnels, and field plots • Collect plant, insect, and environmental samples and measurement data • Maintain insect colonies and prepare plant or insect tissue for analysis • Conduct insect-transmission and biological assays • Extract nucleic acids and support plant-disease or pest research • Assemble, modify, operate, and maintain scientific and agricultural equipment • Plan assigned procedures, compile results, and use computers for equipment control and data handling • Assist senior staff with major field experiments and supervise technical operations when assigned Qualifications A high school diploma or equivalent preparation plus two years of related experience is required. Applicants need knowledge of greenhouse and farm operations, high-tunnel or field equipment, and agricultural research practices. Attention to detail, clear communication, and the ability to work cooperatively across multiple projects are essential. Experience growing vegetables and working with insect pests or plant diseases is preferred. This is a full-time hourly position with compensation based on qualifications. The job includes moderately heavy lifting, periods of high-force physical work, hot field conditions, and occasional evenings or weekends.
