Livestock Farmhand

Drumlin Farm Wildlife Sanctuary is hiring a part-time Livestock Farmhand to care for farm animals, maintain livestock systems, and support public farm education. The role is year-round and is designed for an experienced animal-care worker who can take responsibility for Saturday chores and help guide volunteers. Responsibilities • Feed livestock, clean animal areas, and complete daily care routines • Support animal health through feed ordering, veterinary care, birthing assistance, and accurate birth and health records • Help produce and sell farm products such as eggs, meat, yarn, soap, and sheepskins • Organize supplies and maintain barns, fencing, pens, and livestock equipment • Assist with hay production, manure management, pasture rotation, and mobile chicken coops • Direct volunteers during chores when the Farm Manager is not present • Coordinate with education staff on program chores and safe visitor interactions with animals • Explain the farm's sustainable practices to visitors and assist with special events Qualifications • At least two years of large-animal care experience, specifically with cows, sheep, goats, pigs, and chickens • Able to operate mowers, tractors, trucks, and similar farm equipment • Valid driver's license • Clear communication with staff, volunteers, and the public • Dependable, organized, open to learning, and able to work inclusively with people from varied backgrounds • CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain it • Basic carpentry knowledge is helpful • Must complete CORI, SORI, and applicable motor-vehicle record checks Schedule and compensation This is a year-round position of approximately nine hours each Saturday, with occasional holiday flexibility. Pay is $19–$20 per hour based on qualifications and experience. The position earns vacation time and paid holidays.
