About this job

Stallard Road Farm & Botanicals is accepting applications for full-time and part-time farm crew members for the remainder of its April–October 2026 season in Rixeyville, Virginia. Operating since 2007, this small Certified Naturally Grown farm raises medicinal and culinary herbs alongside plant starts, bees, goats, and beef cattle. About 85 percent of the ingredients used in its small-batch herbal products are grown on the farm, so crew members take part in a complete seed-to-harvest and field-to-pantry production system. Greenhouse and field production β€’ Seed, water, and care for greenhouse starts according to the farm's planting schedule β€’ Transplant herbs and other crops into prepared beds and field areas β€’ Hand-weed, cultivate mechanically, trellis plants, and set up irrigation β€’ Water, trim, and repot container plants for the farm store and farmers markets β€’ Maintain field edges and fence lines, including weed trimming and routine repairs β€’ Keep tools, equipment, greenhouse spaces, and production areas clean and ready for use Harvest and post-harvest work Crew members harvest herbs for fresh sales, drying, product-making, distribution, restaurants, the farm store, and weekend markets. Post-harvest work includes washing, drying, garbling, packing, labeling, storing, and recording finished products. Accuracy matters: herbs must be handled carefully and kept organized by crop and destination. Friday work often focuses on selecting and packing inventory for markets, while Saturday assignments may include market setup, customer sales, post-market inventory, animal chores, and greenhouse watering. Animal care, records, and sales Each day begins with a team meeting and animal chores. Crew members help feed and water goats and move portable fencing as instructed. The position also includes distribution records, crop and plant inventories, farm-store sales, and customer-facing work. At the end of the day, the crew completes greenhouse watering, animal checks, wash-station cleanup, and equipment storage together. Because this is a small diversified farm, employees should expect the day's priorities to shift with weather, harvest readiness, animals, and customer orders. Who the farm is seeking Stallard Road values positive, reliable, responsible people who work hard, pay close attention to detail, follow directions, communicate well, and bring a sense of humor to a demanding season. Previous farm or landscaping experience is preferred. Applicants must be punctual, open to learning, able to work cooperatively, and genuinely interested in growing useful plants and food. A valid driver's license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation to the Rixeyville farm are required. The work is rigorous and fast-paced. Applicants must be in good physical condition, able to lift 50 pounds, and prepared for mud, rain, wind, strong sun, heat, humidity, and rapidly changing fall conditions. The farm is smoke-free and drug-free. Schedule, pay, and season Pay is $15–$20 per hour. Full-time crew members generally work Monday through Friday for at least 40 hours per week. The part-time schedule is Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday for approximately 25 hours. Work begins at 8:00 a.m. in April and shifts to 6:00 a.m. by May; most days finish around 4:30 p.m. depending on assignments. A normal full day includes a paid 15-minute morning break and a one-hour unpaid lunch. Preference goes to applicants who can remain through October, though the farm invites otherwise qualified candidates to explain their availability. Apply directly by emailing info@stallardroad.com with the subject β€œFarm Crew Application.” Include a short resume, three references, and a cover letter addressing why you want to work at this farm, what you hope to learn, your relevant experience, what you would contribute, and a little about your values and interests. The farm states that applications are generally reviewed within one week.
