Organic Farm & Garden Crew Member

Mavourneen Farm is accepting rolling applications for one part-time crew member to join its small team for the remainder of the 2026 growing season in Bloomington, Indiana. Since 2015, the farm has grown certified-organic plants and produce for its CSA, local farmers markets, and farm-stop outlets. Most production is completed by hand in outdoor fields and passive-solar hoop houses, with an emphasis on ecological care, high-quality plants, beautiful produce, mutual respect, and good communication. Nursery and propagation work • Fill trays and containers with growing media and prepare them for seeding • Seed crops accurately, pot up young plants, and apply the correct labels and tags • Water, monitor, and move nursery trays as plants develop • Keep greenhouse and propagation areas clean, orderly, and ready for the next task • Handle young plants carefully while still maintaining an efficient working pace Field and harvest responsibilities • Prepare beds, plant crops, hoe, hand-weed, mow, and complete routine crop care • Harvest vegetables and other products at the quality and maturity expected for customers • Wash, sort, bag, bunch, box, and organize produce for CSA and market distribution • Restock displays and help keep customer-facing produce attractive and clearly presented • Move between repetitive handwork and tasks that require broader crop awareness and creative problem-solving Markets, CSA, and farm projects Crew members greet CSA and farmers-market customers, restock produce, answer reasonable questions, and help create a welcoming experience. Weekend work may take place either at a market or independently at the farm, depending on the season. The team also handles practical construction and repair projects such as hoop-house building, fence work, irrigation lines, and plant benches. Basic familiarity with shovels, wheelbarrows, pruners, weed whips, drills, or saws is useful, but previous farm experience is preferred rather than required. Who will thrive here Mavourneen is seeking someone cheerful, dependable, adaptable, kind, efficient, and genuinely interested in working outside. You should be able to follow instructions, receive constructive feedback, communicate well with a small team, and maintain close attention to plant and produce quality. Plant identification, hand-eye coordination, power-tool experience, and a love of food are advantages. Reliable transportation to the South Rockport Road farm is required. The work continues through heat, cold, rain, and other changing conditions. Applicants must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds and assist with heavier team lifts. Employees supply their own boots, hats, sunscreen, rainwear, gloves, and similar outdoor gear; the farm provides team shirts and wash-and-pack bibs. Schedule, pay, and extras This seasonal position runs through December and averages 24 hours per week. The farm needs availability for two or three days Tuesday through Friday, generally within an 8:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. window, plus a four- to six-hour weekend shift. Start and end times may change with daylight, heat, and crop needs, and occasional delivery or CSA hours may be available. Pay is $16–$20 per hour based on experience. Crew members receive access to nursery plants and farm produce, a commuting fuel stipend, two paid days off, and the option to arrange unpaid time off in advance.
