Organic Pack Shed & Field Hand

Rising River Farm is hiring a Pack Shed and Field Hand for its 2026 season in Rochester, Washington, about 35 minutes south of Olympia. The independent farm uses 10 of its 20 acres to grow organic vegetables, culinary herbs, and plant starts for its CSA, farmers markets, local food hub, food co-ops, and other regional outlets. Pack shed responsibilities • Wash, pack, and label produce according to the farm's quality and customer specifications • Organize the walk-in cooler and other produce-storage areas • Maintain a clean, orderly pack shed and barn • Communicate quality concerns or quantity discrepancies to managers and harvest crews • Follow food-safety procedures and wash and sanitize harvest totes • Update harvest logs and records used for organic certification Field responsibilities • Work with the field crew on weeding, transplanting, harvesting, and irrigation • Install or manage row cover and help with crop protection • Prune and trellis crops and maintain organized production areas • Shift between pack-house and field priorities as harvest volume changes The farm is looking for someone organized, detail-oriented, efficient, and comfortable working independently for extended periods. Applicants must also communicate well, work respectfully with a small crew, follow multi-step instructions, and accept feedback. The job requires standing for long periods, repeated lifting of 40–50 pounds, hands-and-knees work, and outdoor work in cold, rain, heat, and other changing weather. Starting pay is $18 per hour, with possible performance raises and an end-of-season bonus for qualifying employees. Schedules are set weekly at a mutually agreed 32–40 hours.
