Research Scientist Assistant — Plant Sciences

The University of Wyoming is hiring a Research Scientist Assistant at the Powell Research and Extension Center. This full-time role supports field research in weed science, plant breeding, plant pathology, genetics, and related crop disciplines from experiment planning through harvest, analysis, and presentation. What you will do • Help plan, establish, maintain, monitor, and harvest field experiments • Coordinate plot needs with principal investigators, farm crews, students, and industry collaborators • Collect accurate crop, weed, disease, treatment, and yield data according to research protocols • Prepare seed, treatments, supplies, and equipment for trials • Apply pesticides and operate or coordinate specialized field and research equipment safely • Organize datasets, analyze results, prepare reports, and contribute to presentations or publications • Diagnose problems that could affect experimental quality and work with the team on solutions • Maintain research documentation, safety practices, inventories, and project schedules • Guide students or seasonal staff during field and data work Qualifications A master's degree in plant science, weed science, plant pathology, plant breeding, genetics, or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates need a valid driver's license and must hold, or obtain within one year, the appropriate Wyoming pesticide applicator license. Strong field organization, data management, communication, and the ability to work across changing seasonal priorities are important. Salary is not stated in the posting.
