About this job

Price Canyon Ranch is hiring two experienced seasonal livestock workers at its single ranch worksite near Douglas, Arizona. The contract runs through March 1, 2027. More than half of the workdays are spent on the range, where employees monitor cattle, manage grazing, protect the herd, maintain water and fencing systems, and respond to animal-health needs in remote conditions. Daily cattle and range responsibilities • Monitor and herd cattle so grazing remains orderly and animals are protected from predators • Check feed, forage, and water availability and report shortages or system problems • Observe cattle for illness, injury, poor body condition, or abnormal behavior • Move the herd between pastures and gather strays as directed • Wean calves and help sort animals for routine ranch operations • Maintain accurate awareness of herd location and changing range conditions Calving and animal health Employees assist with calving by identifying cows nearing birth, observing labor, providing appropriate assistance, and caring for newborn calves. Ranch hands also help brand, tag, and vaccinate livestock and administer directed treatment to sick or injured animals. This work requires calm handling, sound judgment, and the ability to recognize when a situation should be reported to the rancher immediately. Fencing, water, and equipment The role includes repairing perimeter and interior fencing, checking gates and livestock facilities, and keeping containment systems functional. Price Canyon Ranch distributes water through a pipeline system, and employees inspect, maintain, and repair that system so cattle continue to have reliable access. Workers operate and maintain the ranch equipment needed for feeding, livestock movement, and range maintenance, including tractors and ATVs when assigned. Remote-work expectations Applicants must be able to work capably without close supervision and live or work alone or in a small group in isolated areas for extended periods. The job requires tending, riding, and safely handling horses as well as cattle. Employees must maintain remote living areas responsibly and follow common-sense barn and equine safety practices, including securing gates, stalls, and feed areas and avoiding behavior that could alarm or injure animals. Arizona range conditions include extreme temperatures, biting insects, poisonous snakes, rough ground, and other outdoor hazards. Livestock needs do not follow a conventional office schedule, so employees must be available at all hours when necessary to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the herd. Candidates should carefully consider the isolation and on-call nature of range work before applying. Experience, term, and compensation At least six months of relevant ranch or livestock experience is required. Strong candidates will have proven ability with cattle, horses, calving, animal treatments, fencing, water systems, tractors, or ATVs and will be comfortable making responsible decisions in remote settings. The federal job page lists compensation of $2,132.41 per month. Because the website's structured salary fields only accept whole dollars, the exact amount is provided here rather than rounded. Applicants should confirm the pay schedule, remote housing arrangements, food expectations, transportation, time-off rotation, and all other contract terms before accepting an offer. Apply directly by emailing pricecanyonranchreeves@gmail.com or calling 928-551-1205. Reference federal job order H-300-26138-921502 and give specific examples of your cattle, horse, calving, animal-health, fencing, water-system, and remote-range experience.
